Nominations for the 2025 Utah Transportation Conference Awards are now open. 

Each award category reflects Utah’s Transportation Vision and Quality of Life Framework. We encourage all projects, programs, teams, and individuals from Utah’s transportation industry to submit nominations. Click each title below to learn more about the different categories. Award Information

The Utah Transportation Safety Award is intended for an individual or team exemplifying safety within the context of transportation design, construction, maintenance, or operations.

Good Health through Transportation Award

Two awards may be presented in this category, depending upon the number and relevancy of nominations. One award may be presented to an individual or team, and one to a project, program or study from any agency, consultant or vulnerable user group.

This award is intended to recognize an individual, team, project, program or study that promotes or enhances the health of individuals and communities, such as active transportation improvements, planning efforts or new technology that foster enhanced quality of life, improving environmental conditions (i.e. air quality and water quality), specific safety initiatives or other elements contributing to greater public health through transportation solutions.

An independent panel will judge entries based on the following criteria:

  • How did this individual, team, project, program or study achieve good health through transportation in the impacted community? (45%)
  • How did customers benefit from this work? How did it improve the quality of life for citizens? (45%)
  • Quality of the write-up of the award submission. (10%)

Keeping Utah Moving through Better Mobility Award

Two awards may be presented in this category, depending on the number and relevancy of nominations. One award may be presented to an individual or team, and one may be presented to a project, program or study from any agency or consultant group.

This award is intended for an individual, team, project, program or study that embraces the vision of Keeping Utah Moving Through Better Mobility. Examples of award recipients could include an individual or team addressing a large traffic event, responding to a natural disaster, implementing an innovative method or asset that improves mobility for all users, or a project that emphasizes improving mobility for any mode of transportation.

An independent panel will judge entries based on the following criteria:

  • How did this individual, team, project, program or study positively impact transportation mobility? (45%)
  • How did customers benefit from this work? How did it improve the quality of life for citizens? (45%)
  • Quality of the write-up of the award submission. (10%)

Strengthening the Economy through Transportation Award

Two awards may be presented in this category, depending on the number and relevancy of nominations. One award may be presented to an individual or team, and one award may be presented to a project, program or study from any agency or consultant group.

This award is intended for an individual, team, project, program or study that promotes or demonstrates strengthening Utah’s economy through transportation, such as improving access to goods and services, enacting transportation-related policy that invigorates economic activity, enhancing economic vibrancy of neighborhoods or communities, or other efforts that promote economic activity through transportation solutions.

An independent panel will judge entries based on the following criteria:

  • How did this individual, team, project, program or study positively impact the community’s economy through transportation? (45%)
  • How did customers benefit from this work? How did it improve the quality of life for citizens? (45%)
  • Quality of the write-up of the award submission. (10%)

Connecting Communities through Transportation Award

Two awards may be presented in this category, depending on the number and relevancy of nominations. One award may be presented to an individual or team, and one award may be presented to a project, program or study from any agency or consultant group.

This award is intended for an individual, team, project, program or study that promotes or facilitates connecting Utah’s communities through transportation, such as improving access across neighborhoods or communities, enacting transportation-related policy that promotes connected communities, enhancing relationships and collaboration between communities through transportation, or other efforts that promote connectivity between neighborhoods or communities through transportation solutions.

An independent panel will judge entries based on the following criteria:

  • How did this individual, team, project, program or study positively impact the connection of communities through transportation? (45%)
  • How did customers benefit from this work? How did it improve the quality of life for citizens? (45%)
  • Quality of the write-up of the award submission. (10%)

Utah Transportation Safety Award

Awards from this category may be presented to an individual or team from any agency or consultant group.

The Utah Transportation Safety Award is intended for an individual or team exemplifying safety within the context of transportation design, construction, maintenance, or operations. Following are examples of reasons to nominate an individual or team for this award:

  • Increases safety awareness among colleagues and partners
  • Directly influenced the safe completion of a job/project
  • Increases employee/work crew knowledge of safety
  • Contributes to safety in the work zone
  • Demonstrates safety leadership
 

An independent panel will judge entries based on the following criteria:

  • How did this individual or team increase safety awareness among colleagues and partners or prevent a potential serious incident or injury? (60%)
  • How did customers benefit from this increased safety awareness? How did it improve the quality of life for citizens? (30%)
  • Quality of the write-up of the award submission. (10%)

Utah’s Transportation Vision Award

This award will be presented to the individual, team, project, program, or study that best demonstrates the quality of life framework identified in Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan (Good Health, Better Mobility, Strong Economy and Connected Communities) and the values of Respect, Integrity, Caring, and Accountability to the traveling public shared by Utah transportation professionals. Possible reasons to nominate an individual, team, project, program or study for this award might include:

  • Outstanding collaboration with other groups, individuals, or agencies, bringing together unique perspectives to achieve a transportation solution (internally or externally)
  • Fostering an environment that celebrates and embraces innovation, allowing others to grow personally and professionally
  • Extraordinary efforts to build trust within a community
  • Creating a culture that lays a foundation for future successes
  • Showing a strong commitment to economic vitality and opportunity
  • Unusual and creative efforts toward sustainability and environmental stewardship
  • Exceptional user experience and public engagement
  • Working together to ensure access and opportunity across communities

An independent panel will judge entries based on the following criteria:

  • How did this individual, team, project, program or study positively demonstrate or exemplify the quality of life principles identified in Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan and/or the values of Respect, Integrity, Caring and Accountability to the traveling public shared by Utah transportation professionals? (45%)
  • How did customers benefit from this work? How did it improve the quality of life for citizens? (45%)
  • Quality of the write-up of the award submission. (10%)

 

Please note for project submittals: Projects (or phases of projects) that are nominated should be completed between October 1, 2024 and November 1, 2025. Projects may fit into multiple award categories, and can be submitted for as many of the categories as applicable.
